In 2025, the Zhejiang Provincial Administration for Market Regulation released the quality supervision and spot-check results of 116 types of products, including office chairs, household electric washing machines, and portable fire extinguishers, for the year 2024. A total of 5,867 batches of products were sampled, and 826 batches were found to be unqualified, with lighting products showing particularly prominent quality issues.
Among the nominal manufacturers of the unqualified products, 26 batches originated from Guangdong, accounting for 81.25%. The unqualified items involved harmonic current, protection against electric shock, disturbance voltage (power interface), radiation disturbance, and other aspects. These unqualified items pose serious safety hazards. For instance, inadequate protection against electric shock may lead users to directly contact live components during lamp usage, resulting in electric shock accidents and seriously endangering personal safety. Excessive radiation disturbance may interfere with surrounding electronic devices, affecting their normal operation, and could also pose potential risks to human health. Long-term exposure to an environment with excessive radiation, for example, might have adverse effects on the human immune system and nervous system.
In response to the unqualified products identified in the supervision and spot checks, the Zhejiang Provincial Administration for Market Regulation has instructed relevant market supervision departments in the province to take measures such as sealing up and seizing the products in accordance with the law, strictly prohibiting their production and sale. At the same time, it has required relevant departments to analyze the causes of the disqualifications, urge the problematic production and sales units to fulfill their main responsibilities, strictly supervise the implementation of rectification measures, promptly organize re-examinations, and impose administrative penalties in accordance with the law. For cases suspected of crimes, they should be transferred to judicial organs in a timely manner. This series of measures aims to fundamentally prevent unqualified lighting products from entering the market, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests as well as the lives and property safety of consumers, and also serve as a warning to lighting manufacturers, urging them to strengthen quality control and improve product quality.
